Ben Radford at DeVry November 21st
Monday, November 05, 2007
I received an email from the Midwest Skeptics Society today. Ben Radford of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSI) will be at Devry University on Wednesday, November 21st at 7:30 PM.
The Truth About Ghosts and Ghost Hunting
We have all seen ghosts in film and on television, from Poltergeist to Medium to Ghost Hunters. But how much of that is real and how much is fiction? What does science tell us about ghosts? What kinds of evidence are offered for the existence of ghosts, and how valid is that evidence? Scientific paranormal investigator Benjamin Radford will discuss several case studies of his ghost investigations, including the Haunted Santa Fe Courthouse mystery he solved in June 2007.
I saw Ben at Dragon Con as part of the Skeptics 101 Panel and I really enjoyed hearing him. I'm hoping to go. Anyone else in the KC area plan to go?

O'Girl - you'd be on skeptical overload if you lived here in SoCal - Home of Michael Shermer's Skeptics Society. I get things in the mail, non-stop, about various dignitaries of the skeptical movement who are speaking, usually at Cal Tech in Pasadena. I go occasionally - but it has to be better than someone telling me what science has to say about ghosts. I already know the answer!

I probably would skip something like this too, but one of the best panels I attended at Dragon Con was Alison Smith's ghost panel (and it was early in the morning). You'd be surprised what discussions like this can touch on (science, religion, politics, etc).

No, I know...
The point I was trying to make was that we have so many similar opportunities, that I would probably pass on that one. If I was in the area when it was happening, I'd be interested.

That sounds like it might be a fun lecture to attend. Were I in the area, which I'm nowhere even close to...

Given this is in walking distance of home, I feel compelled.... Should be interesting.
