You DO realize that Carl Zimmer hates you, right?
Not that your reading list is any of my business, but if you do get around to reading Zimmer, I think Parasite Rex would be a better choice and even his new book Microcosm sounds excellent. Not saying anything bad about Triumph. But with your background, you won't learn as much new stuff from it.

Evo: I'm sure Carl Zimmer doesn't know I exist. And look, his book is next. Unless I bump it for Nick Mamatas, which has been waiting for almost as long (and it's short!)
I only have the Evolution book. I haven't seen the other two, but I'll pick up Parasite Rex for sure if I see it.

That's funny. I was in the library the other day, and they have this bookshelf of books that don't have to be checked out. You just find something you like, and take it, on the honor system.
I found "Soul Made Flesh" about the history of the discovery of the brain. I had no intention of reading anything by Zimmer, but here I am, deeply into it.
And then "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder" comes up, and I start reading that too.
The publishing industry needs to take a break to let me catch up.
