Reading List for October

Read in September
Julian - Gore Vidal
Why Darwin Matters - Michael Shermer
Lost Languages - Andrew Robinson

Currently Reading
Dexter in the Dark - Jeff Lindsay

OK, so Dexter wasn't on the list last time. I couldn't resist though. The book just came in about a week ago. And it was great timing too for the publisher because the second season of Dexter on Showtime started last night.

The book and the television series are vastly different. Dexter in the books is much colder and much more difficult to empathize with. In the series he's more human and more likable. I think the changes they made for the television series were smart.

The story lines don't look like they'll mirror each other this season. Some of the characters are dead in the book and alive in the series and some in the series are dead and alive in the book. There are a lot of key differences, not just with the main character, but with the supporting cast and the way they're portrayed as well.

Anyway, even though I like the series better, I'm enjoying the book. I was going to read a few pages before going to sleep last night and ended up reading to chapter 5. I think this one will be a quick read.

Coming Up Next
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff - Christopher Moore

Bad news on this one. I haven't received it from Abebooks. This is the second time the used bookseller has messed up my order. Last time it was Frugal Books and this time it is got books inc. I received a package early last week with 3 out of the 5 books I'd ordered. There was no invoice. I sent an email to the book seller and haven't received a reply. I'm not sure if the other two books are coming or not. I may have to request a refund and order elsewhere. I think that's just about it as far as strikes with me and Abebooks. Too many of the resellers are unreliable.
