Thoughts of Closing

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I haven't posted in a while and I actually have given a lot of thought to closing the blog down. I still enjoy writing, but I haven't felt motivated to write here. But then I found out that my sister is reading the blog, and (OMG my sister is reading my blog!) I thought it'd be rather rude to shut down after she took the time to find me.

So, the blog will be up for a little while longer while I mull it over.

I'm still reading your blogs though and finding a lot of good content on the Internet even if I don't always comment.

Woohoo, glad your sister means you're not closing down :)

But seriously, think twice before closing the doors for good. Take a hiatus if you need to. But Blog delete is forever!

Ditto on what Kyle says, OG - I usually pop in 2 or 3 times a week; if you close down, I'll have to do something radical, like, deleting you from my blogroll or something.

Perhaps I understand what you are feeling about the blog. I've been struggling with feeling insubstantial on my blog - like 'what's the point?'. I'm not putting out anything really new, useful or thoughtful...

However, I've always enjoyed your posts. I wish I wrote as well, or dared express my interior thoughts as coherently. Please keep your blog up, even if you only post infrequently.

I just found Your blog today, it would be a shame if You shut it down. Blogs are amazing things.

I go back and forth on my blog and sometimes take a break. I would say the same as the above people -- take a hiatus if you need to; you might find you really miss blogging!

Sure, first the Herd bails on AGP and now you are leaving. I have thought of what happens when the day comes when I stop posting on my blog. I think the best way is to just slowly fade away and let others know what is happening and include current contact info. Definitely don't delete your blog!! ;) I think "anonymous" put it best on the 11 June comment!! :)

I concur with the "hiatus" suggestion. You may find your muse again. I also agree that you should ignore the "delete blog" button. It would be a shame to lose the good stuff you've posted in the past.

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes. I was definitely planning on not deleting the site, maybe eventually making it private after some time.

I still don't know if I have the energy to blog, but maybe just posting once in a while will be okay. Thank you all for your support.

I'll tell you what I tell all my friends that thank of shutting down their blogs-don't, and don't make it private.

You should leave it up for posterity, you have posted a lot of good stuff over the years.

It would be sad. I have struggled to post much the last few weeks due to trying to get my house ready for sale. So I can understanding not having the urge to write. Depends if it's serving a purpose for you I spose.

I know how you feel, OG. I spent some time earlier this spring seriously contemplating just walking away. Just because you have a blog, doesn't mean you have to post something every day, or even every week, or for that matter every month or year. You post when the muse strikes, and that should be enough. Don't write for others, write for yourself. After all, it's an outlet, not a news source.

I found that slowing down, while leaving it open, was a good way to handle it. Some days I feel like posting ,most days I don't.

It's really a weird coincidence, but I'm in a similar boat. I've taken a big long vacation from all forms of internet commentary (reading or writing).

Maybe it's because I'm less perturbed now that Bush is no longer President. :) Maybe it's because it's Spring/Summer and I find myself with a ba-zillion other things I have to do.

But I've had big gaps of getting away from the Internet before, only to have some new topic finally come along to light a fire in me again. And I bet the same thing will happen to you too.

But whatever you do, don't delete your blog! Your articles are absolutely wonderful and I bet you still get new readers coming in off Google Searches.

Blogs like yours are a rare and much needed voice on the internet, and the must not be silenced!!
