Peek-A-Boo

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Apologies in advance to my non-cat-loving or non-cute-loving users, but yeah, this is a cat post.

My cat Junior used to do this. We'd play peek-a-boo and chase sometimes. As soon as he'd sneak around the corner to get me I'd jump out at him and he'd run away. Only to come back in curiosity when I peeked out at him again.

I miss him.

Yeah. It's the little things. :(

Wizardcat had a special 'sound' just for me. Sometimes I hear an approximation of it in the voice of one of my current cats, who likes to play games. 'Zoon-dwow!'Cats are astonishingly varied in what they like to do for games and play - I've had cats fetch balls for me, catch balls mid-flight (well, bounce, they don't leap too high), play chase around the house, build forts with me to nap in and help 'read the newspaper' (crawl into a section further on in the pages to be revealed as you turn to it with a 'froop!')

A friend told me today, hence the post, of the decline of his cat. I think their relatively short lives makes us value the little things even more.

*except at this point at 7am, when one of them is galloping around playing tip the pencil jars with his big fat tail... little bugger...*

There was a Dr. Who episode about this...called "Blink". It aired about two years ago. It was about creatures who could only move when nobody could see them.

If you had seen that episode, you wouldn't think this was cute. :)

That particular episode actually won several awards. It's one of the scariest things I've seen on T.V. in many years!

I'm not a cat person, generally, but that little guy is cute.

I'm not much of a cat person either, but that was quite cute.

had a cat years ago who used to run and hide under my bed, until the day I left the bedroom door shut and the poor bugger ran full pelt into it.

Podblack: My cat Billy is skittish, but he always gets up on the couch when I sit there. Junior used to climb on me with his pointy little feet. Ugh!

Visatluna: Yep, Podblack referred to that exact episode. It's like slow moving zombies. It's the inevitability that they will get you.

Chappy: He's adorable, although those eyes close up are a little creepy.

    Ozatheist: Ouch! Poor kitty!

Cats are so cute! I do like them even if somewhat allergic.

My kitten totally does this. Except when I jump out at her, she'll jump two feet in the air, all 4 sets of claws bared, do a 180, and by the time she lands, she's already running away full steam. It's cute as hell.

Check out my facebook sometime. I posted a video of her a couple weeks ago going apeshit for a catnip toy.

My cat Gabriel does this when I am cllin him for bed, although he has started to grow out of it.

He did fetch for me once, but decided I think that once was enough and ever since then its been me doing the fetching.

They know where their bread is buttered, it's cute stuff like this that keeps them from being turned into throw rugs when the demand feeding at 3 in the morning.

Shadow and I have a similar game, but Junior does it in a cuter way.

I'll see Shadow sitting in the middle of the floor staring at me. I start running at him and he takes off like a bat out of hell. He usually runs into my room. I start walking back and he follows. I stop and whip around and chase him back. We repeat that until he tires me out.

All I can say is: it was gaggingly cute. But at least it wasn't a human baby.

    I miss him.

You need to go to an animal shelter and adopt a sweet, older cat that none of the kids who go there to adopt will ever look at. They are all looking for a cute kitten. But an older cat who has been stuck in one of those places for a while and probably going to be put down shortly will really really love you for taking her home.

PBS: Matt (my husband) is allergic too. Which is why we're not getting more cats.

    Davo: Definitely a cute video.

Sean: Consider yourself lucky. My cat has never fetched. He will occasionally bring a toy over to me, but if I throw it he gives me a blank stare. He does have one annoying habit of putting his toys in his water dish.

    Sylvene: :(

Ex and Chappy: No babies here, but I'm sure those links Chappy has are great.

Evo: I have a cat that is older (Billy) with three legs and dandruff. Unwanted enough for you? I promised Matt no more cats after the two I had when we met were gone. I hate it, but it was a promise and although I love my cats I'd rather have him.

    Vistaluna:

I want more detail on this TV show!

And Girl, 3 legs! How cute!

I want another cat... but I guess I have to settle for a baby. :)

Kelly: I'm sure the adorableness of the baby will make up for not having a kitten. :)
